As I mentioned in the previous post, street photography is not really my thing and it used to feel a bit challenging to me to shoot in this genre, so I decided to challenge myself with a little creative projects on Toronto Street Photography — all shot with an iPhone XR. I chose shooting with an iPhone instead of my pro camera for this particular project to just eliminate some of those creative blocks that we sometimes have when we’re hiding behind lack of equipment, such as, “I don’t have a camera.” So, shooting this series with an iPhone was a little reminded to myself: you don’t need much to be creative, and expressing your creativity daily is easier than one might think.
This is part of the series of my iPhone Toronto Street Photography which was sort of a creative challenge to me but in the end it turned out quite a fun creative experience. Noticing something interesting in seemingly ordinary scenes and everyday spots can be really rewarding for a creative.
In my street photography, I like to also include people in the shot. Probably, that’s just because I am a people photographer and it still feels more interesting to me when a human is present in the scene to tell a story. However, you don’t always want to disclose your subjects’ identities in any way when you didn’t actually have their consent when you were shooting them.
Street photography is candid, and your camera often catches people who are unaware of the fact that you’re shooting them. So sharing such work may become quite problematic in many cases. However, there are quite a lot of creative ways to include people in your street photography without showing their identity. You can shoot them without showing their faces, you can shoot body parts, you can shoot their outfit, our you can shoot them out of focus or blurred. The possibilities are almost endless. In this series, I experimented with such faceless people street photography too, just following my subjects for a little bit and capturing city scenes. In this series, I was also going after some sort of cinematic vibe, like a little story on one Toronto street.
More from this series is coming soon :)
